Golden Educational Consulting was created with one simple goal: to create a new, healthier way for families to navigate the college search process. One very important way that we achieve this goal is connecting families with the absolute best educational consultants; professionals with unparalleled counseling skill, deep admission experience, and most importantly, a joyful and inspiring heart. Working with GEC means that your student will not only be better able to advocate for themselves in the admission and financial aid process, but that they will have a personal mentor by their side, one-on-one, teaching skills they will use throughout life.
To help us continue this mission, I am thrilled to announce that we are again growing our practice with the hiring of Butch Hamilton as an Educational Consultant with Golden Educational Consulting.
Butch brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to his work with students and families, and is deeply committed to the health-first approach that is the hallmark of GEC. Butch brings over 35 years of experience in university admissions and college counseling to our team. He began as an undergraduate tour guide at Allegheny College and realized he loved admissions. After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts in history from Allegheny, he earned a Master of Arts in student affairs in higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He worked on the college side of admissions for 11 years at the University of Delaware and has spent the past 25 years working in college counseling at high schools.
Butch celebrates when a high school senior stops by his office to tell him what school they will attend in the fall. “Even before they say the name of the school, they excitedly tell me all the little things they love about their destination.” He is honored to play a role in finding a school that is not only a great fit, but will also signify “an even better fit once they enroll, persist, and graduate.”
“What attracted me to Golden Educational Consulting was their incredibly positive philosophy when it comes to their work with students and the college search process. I eagerly look forward to sharing my knowledge and insights with my GEC colleagues and students with the hope that it will resonate for all now and in the future.”
While he lives in southern Maryland, Butch will always call Pittsburgh home. In his spare time, he enjoys searching for fossilized shark teeth on riverbanks and reading extensively. Butch loves taking on obstacle course races and eagerly looks forward to the next CrossFit workout or competition.
